The Most Common Types Of Cockroach Found In Your House

Usually, cockroaches do not cause any harm. It is a fact that varieties of roaches are found almost all over the world, excluding those environments that are inhospitable, such as Antartica. At present, more than 4000 species of cockroaches are known; three of these love to dwell in places where humans also live; just picture the mayhem that these pests cause in human lives.

Identifying these cockroaches could be the first step in irradication and control. It is pretty easy and can aid in extermination techniques. The following are the three major common cockroaches.

American Cockroach

The American cockroach has a reddish brown color & single stripe on the head. It can grow up to 25mm in length. These roaches get easily attracted to liquor. Hence, they are often seen in bars or at home after party where wine, beer & alcohol was present. They have a life span of up to one and half years. Their incubation period is from 6 to 8 weeks.

German Cockroach

The German cockroach sport a brownish or tan color, and two lighter stripes on the back of its head. They can grow up to lengths of 15mm. It is probably breeds the fastest in comparison to the cockroaches, giving birth to around 30 to 40 nymphs with an incubation period of 30 days. At this rate, one cockroach can multiply into 30,000 in just a year. They can live for around six months.

Oriental Cockroach

Among these 3, the Oriental cockroach is probably the biggest. It grows approximately 25mm in length. These insects are a dark brown or black color with a shiny body & move more slowly than the other species. They are sometimes called the water bug considering that they prefer dark, damp hiding places. They are commonly seen in damp mulch or cellars. The duration of incubation could be about 2 months with about 15 eggs hatching and; they can each live for up to two years.
