Few Tips To Troubleshoot A Clothes Dryer
Clothes dryer seems to the most important household appliance, especially when we talk about colder areas where sunshine is hard to get. The breakdown of the dryer for sometime make us worried that this tiny problem could necessitate the purchase of the new appliance.
Before rushing out searching for the expert’s help, why not to first try fixing the problem by own. Of course, it is not a big deal and homeowners can do it perfectly. Besides, it is always advised to acquire first hand knowledge regarding the task. The article below will help an individual to effectively resolve the problems.
First of all, if the dryers drum operate but does not heat, check the fuse. The fuse may not be faulty if there is a break inside. Replace it with a new one. Temperature selecting knob can also be defective. Test it using a VOM. Fix the meter to RX1. Hold the testing leads to knob ends. Working of the switch is proved by deviation in the meter needle from either 0 to infinity or infinity to 0.
At last, check the thermostat. Keep the meter to RX1. Press the testing probes to the thermostat terminals. Indicating 0 in the meter scale means the thermostat is also fine, else replace the thermostat. Then, inspect the heating coils as these could be the one creating problem. Touch the probes to the coils and note the meter readings. For 0, get your coils replaced.
Additionally, failing of the thermostat and even the heating coils cause over heating in the appliance. Observe keenly both the things as taught in the previous part of the article.
Also, there are chances that the vent is clogged. Check both the lint trap and the vent on the outside of the house. If either are clogged, there is a risk of carbon monoxide buildup in the house.
Total failure of the dryer can happen due to faulty thermostat or the timer. Check them as told in the previous paragraphs. But before that, just make sure that adequate voltage is available at the electrical outlet or not.
These, of course, are not everything that can go wrong with your dryer, but only the most common problems. If you find yourself unable to fix the problem, call in an electrician.
