Advice on Wooden and Metal Sheds
If you own a large amount of garden equipment and supplies that you want to keep in good repair and safe then you need some form of storage. Today you have the choice between both wooden and metal sheds into which you can place essential items for your garden. As well as ensuring that all your equipment remains in good working order, by placing them in a shed you know exactly where they are when you need them.
When it comes to which type of shed you are going to buy, as you will soon discover there are a number of different styles, shapes and sizes to choose from. Which kind of shed you select depends largely on the size of your garden and how much you want to keep inside it. There are many advantages to be had from either installing a metal or timber shed in your garden today.
Certainly, many people prefer to install wooden sheds in their gardens because they add to the look of the garden. However, it is best to avoid those made using softwood and instead go for one that has been made from cedar (although more expensive). Unfortunately, the problem with softwood sheds is that they are likely to rot easily when they become exposed to water.
A timber shed certainly can enhance the look of your garden, but these also need to be well maintained if you want to prevent damage occurring to the items inside. Therefore you should carry out regular checks of the overall integrity of the shed (every 6 months should suffice). Plus after any major storms or strong winds it is a good idea to check the shed over, especially the roof.
Although metal sheds do not look as pleasing they do require far less maintenance. Sheds which have been made from galvanized steel do not rot, are totally weather proof and the chances of rodents actually taking residence up inside one are very limited. Plus unlike a shed made from timber these will never crack or warp and often will require no maintenance once they have been installed.
Another big advantage to be gained from owning a metal shed rather than a timber one is that they are much more difficult to gain access into. As long as yours is fitted with a good quality lock then actually breaking in to such a storage shed would prove to be somewhat difficult for any opportunistic thief.
When selecting the right shed for your garden, it is important that you ensure that you purchase one that has sufficient space to store all that you want into it. Therefore the larger the shed the better and ideally one that you can easily afford. If you intend to get one that is more than 100 sq ft in size then you need to check what building permits are required for it before you make the purchase.
Above we have looked at what the advantages of having either wooden and metal sheds in your garden are. Certainly, if you are looking to ensure that the look of your garden is not compromised then a wooden one is far the best option. However, for those who want practicality and not have to worry about maintenance costs then a metal one is best.
